Establishment of Skill Center for Girls with Disabilities – EmpowerHer at Model Industrial Home Hayatabd, Peshawar
PESHAWAR:(Special Representative)According to Global times News Agancy Europe,The Social Welfare Department has taken a historic initiative for the empowerment of girls with disabilities. Under this initiative, girls with disabilities who have completed their education at the middle, matriculation, and intermediate levels will now have the opportunity to develop professional skills instead of remaining idle at home. This initiative aims to enable them to become financially independent and contribute to the support of their families.The Honourable Secretary, Social Welfare, Special Education & Women Empowerment Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Sharif Hussain, inaugurated the Skill Center, EmpowerHer, at Model Industrial Home (MIH) on Monday, 8th June 2026, with the vision of empowering special girls so they may earn independently and overcome barriers caused by disability.As these students have already received vocational training during their academic years, the first phase of training at the center will focus on Digital Marketing, Market Access, and related entrepreneurial skills to help them connect with markets and promote their products and services. Initially, the trainees will be provided with a three-month subscription to a relevant digital application/platform to support their learning and practical exposure.The Secretary was accompanied by Director Social Welfare, Mr. M. Saleh; Gender Specialist, Syeda Nudrat; Principal Special Education, Ms. Shazia; and District Officer, Mr. Shoaib. Representatives from Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP), including Mr. Aftab (Head of SRSP), Mr. Asad, and Arbab Tehmas, were also present on the occasion.The Secretary Social Welfare appreciated and thanked SRSP for its valuable support in organizing and facilitating training programmes for girls with disabilities.He also appreciated the efforts of his team for their hard work and dedication in making the establishment of the center possible.The Secretary interacted with the trainees, encouraged them to work with confidence, and emphasized that disability should never be considered a hurdle in achieving success and independence.
