The Green Journalism Conference was held at the COMSTECH Secretariat, Islamabad.

The special guests of the conference were Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarar and Member of National Assembly Farhan Chishti.

ISLAMABAD:(Special Representative)According to Global times News Agancy Europe,The Department of Mass Communication at Federal Urdu University (FUUAST) Islamabad and COMSTECH jointly organized a one-day National Conference on Green Journalism at the COMSTECH Secretariat, Islamabad.Held under the theme “Media for Environmental Protection and a Green Pakistan,” the conference brought together environmental experts, media professionals, academics, researchers, students, diplomats and representatives from various institutions to discuss the role of media in addressing climate and environmental challenges.Federal Urdu University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Zabta Khan Shinwari and COMSTECH Coordinator General Professor Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary served as Patrons-in-Chief of the conference. Delivering a keynote lecture, Dr. Shinwari said that the primary responsibility of media is to provide people with truthful and factual information. He stressed that responsible journalism can play a vital role in highlighting environmental issues and promoting practical solutions to climate-related challenges. He emphasized that protecting the environment and ensuring a greener future for coming generations is a national responsibility in which media can play a key role.Professor Dr. Iqbal Choudhary highlighted the importance of training young journalists and media professionals, saying that responsible media is essential for building an informed and aware society.Federal Miniater for Information Ata Tararz who was the chief guest, thoughts of FUUAST and COMSTECH for environmental sustainability and media development. Member National Assembly Farhan Chishti termed the event a landmark initiative and appreciated Federal Urdu University for organizing what he described as the country's first conference dedicated to Green Journalism.Speaking on the occasion, Head of the Department of Mass Communication Dr. Faisal Javaid said the conference reflected the academic vision of Vice Chancellor Dr. Zabta Khan Shinwari and the university’s commitment to addressing contemporary social and environmental issues through education and research.Conference Secretary Dr. Sikandar Zarrn said that Green Journalism is already part of the department’s academic curriculum and that the department aims to produce media professionals and responsible citizens capable of contributing to environmental awareness and sustainable development.The conference featured research presentations by environmental experts and media scholars, student research posters, and documentaries focusing on environmental challenges, climate awareness and the role of media in promoting sustainable solutions. A special message from Kenyan environmental expert Dr. Margaret representing the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), was also shared with participants.Prominent journalists and anchorpersons including Javed Chaudhry, Talat Hussain, Azaz Syed, Rauf Klasra and Mahnoor Qureshi also shared their views during the conference.
