Under its EU-funded project, “Enhancing Access to Justice and Protection for Vulnerable Detainees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan,” SHARP organized a one-day capacity-building training at Peshawar Barracks for prison staff from various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Peshawar:(Special Representative)According to Global times News Agancy Europe,Under its EU-funded project, “Enhancing Access to Justice and Protection for Vulnerable Detainees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan,” SHARP organized a one-day capacity-building training at Peshawar Barracks for prison staff from various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.The training focused on International Human Rights Law, safeguards against torture, fair trial standards, humane treatment of detainees, and prisoners’ rights, reinforcing SHARP’s commitment to promoting rights-based prison management across KP.Addressing the participants, Mr. Syed Liaquat Banori, Chairman SHARP, emphasized the importance of institutional reforms and protecting the dignity and rights of detainees through collaborative efforts.In his remarks, Mr. Rehan Gul Khattak, IG Prisons KP, appreciated the initiative and highlighted the need for continued professional capacity-building for prison staff in line with international standards.Mr. Amin Shuaib, DIG Prisons KP, noted that such trainings play a vital role in strengthening knowledge, improving prison practices, and promoting humane treatment within detention facilities.Participants were sensitized on key international frameworks, including the Nelson Mandela Rules, UDHR, UNCAT, and ICCPR, equipping prison officials with practical knowledge to uphold justice, dignity, and human rights in prison facilities.
